Rivers Angels' attacking midfielder, Stella Mbachu was inconsolable after her side fell 0-3 to perennial rivals, Delta Queens in the Super Six final on Tuesday in Abuja. The Cup holders suffered their successive defeats in the hands of Delta Queens at the same stage of the competition. Mbachu said her side were the better side but blamed hard luck for their defeat. "I don't know how to explain it, we outplayed Delta Queens and still lost. Could it be hard luck or the gods conspired to punish us for offences I can't readily fathom? "If I said I was disappointed it's an understatement, I think I'm simply heartbroken. "We created several chances but failed to convert them while Delta created three chances and scored. "The goal margin is unacceptably massive, 3-0 is on the high side. Delta don't deserve the victory but in football it is the side that score more that wins. "They've beaten us again to emerge champions. It's a sad end to our concerted fight to dethrone them," the petite Super Falcons forward said to supersport.com. Mbachu said her side will go all out to punish the Challenge Cup semifinals opponents, Akwa Babes in Thursday's clash at Abuja. "We'll try to console ourselves with a massive win against Akwa Babes in Thursday's Challenge Cup semifinals clash in Abuja. "We'll equally fight hard to win back the title as consolation for the Super Six loss," she said. Dan Evumena's team have successfully defended the title they won last year at the expense of the Garden City side. |
